Funeral service will be held 12Noon Monday, December 9, 2002 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Michael Golwitzer Minister, officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Visitation 5-8PM Saturday and 11AM- 2PM and 4-8PM Sunday at the funeral home. Dean was born in Flat River, Missouri on July 3, 1923 and was the son of Linley and Blanche (Killingsworth) Summers. He married Joan M. Menz on January 6, 1996 in Flint. He was a member of Grand Blanc Church of Christ. Dean was employed with General Motors Truck Assembly for 38 1/2 years. He donated many of his retirement years playing his guitar and singing for nursing homes state wide. Surviving are: wife, Joan; sons, Wade and wife Sherry Summers of Flushing, Scott Summers of Burton; step-sons, Mark and wife Marlene Menz of Ohio, Matt and wife Pam Menz of Grayling, Michigan; grandchildren, Rodney and Christopher, both of Flint; step-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael and Sara Young, Danny and David, Justin and Jennifer Menz; sister, Anna 'Toni' and husband Robert Schultz of Burton; sister-in-law, Helen Summers of Grand Blanc; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, of 50 years, Paula (Rivette) Summers; brother, Elwood 'Bub' Summers and his parents.
