  On 20 July 1881, Louise and her son Charles Buchtel were arrested for disturbance for fighting each other (at one point Louise threatened to kill her son). The report concluded, "Stories as to the nature of the trouble are too conflicting to be made much out of." Louise petitioned the court for her to adopt her grandson, Harley Buchtel (Charles Buchtel's son); Harley's mother had died, but Charles was still living. The court granted her petition and ordered the adoption on 04 November 1885. On 9 May 1893, Louise married J. B. Pickett, in Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. The marriage must not have lasted - she is listed as Louise Pickett in the 1900 US Census, but J. B. Pickett is not with her on the census, plus she was buried as Buchtel, not Pickett.
