Hathaway, 92, died Sunday, December 25, 2011, at 6:10 P.M. at his residence in Ada, surrounded by his family. He was born June 9, 1919 in Findlay, Ohio, to Glen D. and Goldie B. (Welker) Hathaway who preceded him in death. On December 12, 1942, he married Mable Mae Thompson and she survives in Ada. Russell retired from McCurdy Steel Products in Ada after 29 years. After that he worked at Rockwell/Standard in Kenton for 4 ½ years. In his retirement he went in to business for himself in carpentry and electrical work. Russell was an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Ada American Legion Post #185. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department for 26 years where he attained the rank of captain. He was a member of the Ada First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Drena (Mark) Metzger, of Alvada, and Coleen(John) Sears, of Millersport; one daughter-in-law, Barbara (Harvey) Nash, of Westerville; one sister, Mona-Myrl (William) Pifer, of Williamstown; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one son, Larry Hathaway; one sister, Glenona Foster; and one half brother, Dean Hathaway. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, with the Rev. Mary Jo Yeakel officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Arlington. Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Ada, and until the time of service Thursday atthe funeral home.
